Valentine's Day
February 13, 2011
"Saint Valentine's Day (commonly shortened to Valentine's Day) is an
annual holiday held on February 14 celebrating love and affection
between intimate companions. The holiday is named after one or more
early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope
Gelasius I in 496 AD. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express
their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery,
and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). The holiday first
became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer
in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
Modern Valentine's Day symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards."
Now the question is...Has this day not become more of a money making racket??? Are there really true souls out there that really believes in true love? I believe I do....
It is those times when you are in a heated confrontation with your loved one and you feel that you could ring the other person's neck, that you turn around and go make some coffee for your loved one...that is when you know you love the other person. Some say it is merely an indication of submission. Maybe it is, but maybe it is that inner desire to express your love, no matter what?
Whatever the reason you have to really cherish the other person in your life.... Always obey the golden rule: "Never rely on feelings alone as they dwindle as the mist fades before the rising sun. Always keep yourself focused on what you desire to achieve no matter what!
I love my special person in my life. I love my wife dearly and don't need the 14th of February to remind me of my love for her. She is an amazing woman who has amidst the turmoils of our relationship kept her focus on me, sometimes at great cost. She is a truly special woman and I love her for that!!!!
